My Background

I had a latent interest in photography since I was invited into someone’s darkroom, at the age of four, to see an image appear on the blank print paper after it was immersed in the developer. This was really magical and still holds a certain fascination after all these years. Of course there was only “Black and White” photography available to all but the very well off people at that time (late 1940's) and “Black and White” images still hold a certain magic for me even now, although you will not find any monochrome images in my galleries at present.

The latent interest I mentioned manifested itself when I was about 16 or 17 years old (early 1960's) and I bought my first camera, an Halina twin lens reflex. My father even made an enlarger for me which worked quite well. Other interests then took over and it was not until I was about twenty eight (early 1970's) when photography entered my life again.

I bought a second hand Miranda 35mm camera, one of the original Mirandas - not the later models, from a colleague at work and joined the “Hull Photographic Society” where I gained some club distinctions in competitions. Again working in mono only and wet processing. The Miranda was eventually exchanged for a more up to date Konica FS1 with 28mm, 40mm and 135mm lenses.

My involvement in photography then took a back seat but I always had a camera and took pictures of family and holidays like most people. The camera models changing a few times along the way. It is only recently that I have returned to photography, or should I say “Digital Imagery”, and am now supplying pictures to an image library called Alamy. A lot of the images in the Galleries have been taken with a Canon 20D and EFS lenses and some of the images may well have been taken by lesser consumer models. Go to "Equipment" for my up to date gear.
